Jurre Koopmans (2002) is a passionate and dedicated cellist. His exceptional musicality was recognised in 2024 during his bachelor’s final exam at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where he graduated with the highest possible grade (10) and received a distinction for his “highly convincing musicianship, authentic playing, and deep commitment to the art”.

At the age of nine, Jurre began studying with Lucia Swarts at the School for Young Talent of the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. In 2020, he continued his studies there with Larissa Groeneveld in the bachelor’s programme, which he completed in June 2024. He is currently pursuing his master's degree at the Conservatory of Amsterdam in the class of Pieter Wispelwey.

Since its founding in 2017, Jurre has been a member of the Viride Quartet. Alongside his work with the quartet, he has performed as a soloist in major cello concertos and appeared in renowned venues such as Muziekgebouw Eindhoven, Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ, De Doelen and the Royal Concertgebouw. Since 2016, he has also formed a permanent duo with pianist Victor Su.

Jurre has been successful in several competitions, including winning first prize at the Britten Cello Competition in 2021. He has taken part in masterclasses with renowned cellists such as Anastasia Kobekina, Zlatomir Fung, Michel Strauss, Dmitri Ferschtman, Harro Ruijsenaars, and Gary Hoffman.

Thanks to the Dutch Musical Instruments Foundation (NMF), Jurre has the opportunity to play on a beautiful cello built by Thomas Meuwissen (Brussels, 2008). His bow, crafted by Emil Werner (formerly owned by Frieda Belinfante), is also generously provided by the foundation.
