Sedna Heitzman

Viola

Sedna Heitzman (2000) started playing the violin at age five and was admitted to the School for Young Talent at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague in 2012, where she received violin lessons from Koosje van Haeringen. In this conservatory she also took her Bachelor's degree with Ilona Sie Dhian Ho. During her studies, Sedna also developed a big passion for viola. She started to focus on the viola more seriously since 2018, when she received viola lessons from Liesbeth Steffens. Sedna is currently finishing her Master's degree with Marjolein Dispa and Nobuko Imai at the Conservatory of Amsterdam.

 

In addition to the quartet, Sedna is also actively seeking further collaborations and projectsherself as a (chamber) musician. She regularly plays with string orchestra Kamerata Zuid and wassubstituting as second violinist of the Matangi Quartet in 2023, all year. In the fall of 2024, Sedna had the opportunity to play a project with Amsterdam Sinfonietta. Sedna is also working as a substitute in several orchestras in the Netherlands.

 

Sedna has participated in competitions such as the Dutch Violin Competition (category Davina van Wely), where she received the prize for the best performance of the commissioned composition, and the Princess Christina Competition, where she won 2nd prize in the Regional Final in Rotterdam in 2016 and 2nd prize in the National Final with the Viride Quartet in 2018. In 2021 Sedna won first prize in the National Viola Competition and the prize for the best performance of a Fantasy by Telemann.
